Introduction. Elect is derived from the Latin word electus which means Chosen or Selected. In theology, elect means; - Chosen as a subject of mercy; - Chosen, selected or designated to eternal life; predestination in the divine counsels. Based on these definitions, God’s own elect means chosen or personally selected by God; a life predestined by God’s mercy.
